Unity soccer ends season with split

The Unity High School soccer team ended its regular season on a high note Tuesday afternoon, defeating Rantoul 2-1 at home. But the momentum generated by the victory was extinguished Friday afternoon when the Rockets were shut out by Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond 2-0 in the first round of the Class 1A Decatur St. Teresa regional tournament.

Savoy village board OKs Mahomet Aquifer consent decree on landfill

The Savoy village board has approved the Mahomet Aquifer consent decree to settle the lawsuit between Clinton Landfill and a coalition of local governments.
So far, all municipalities have accepted the decree. All 14 local governments must agree to the terms of the decree for it to work.

Wheeler to attend Olney Central College

The third all-time leading scorer in Unity High School history has made his decision as to where he will continue his academic and athletic careers. J.T. Wheeler, a May, 2018 Unity graduate, announced on Twitter Sunday that he will be attending Olney Central College this fall.

Unity 9/10 All-Stars end tourney run

The Unity Little League 9/10-year old All-Star baseball team saw its tournament trail come to an end last week at the district tourney in Tuscola. Monday evening, July 9, Unity dropped a winner’s bracket contest to Champaign East, considered by many to be the best team in the tournament, by a score of 4-2.

Unity boys’ track sets 3 records, ties 1 more

The County Star’s review of the 2018 Unity High School spring sports season concludes this week with a look at the boys’ track and field team. Coach Tim Gateley’s crew won their first four invitational meets of the season before tying Eureka for the team title at the Mahomet-Seymour Invitational, the final meet of the regular season.

Migut named Athlete of the Year on All-Area boys’ track team

The honors keep rolling in for Steven Migut. The May graduate of Unity High School and All-State quarterback in football added another accolade to his collection when he was named the Athlete of the Year on the All-Area boys’ track and field team, selected by the News-Gazette. 

Unity All-Stars to begin tourney play July 5 and 6

The Unity Little League All-Stars will enter postseason play on Thursday, July 5, and Friday, July 6, with district tournaments getting under way in Tuscola and Champaign.

The 9-/10-year-old All-Stars will go to Tuscola for their district tournament and will play their first game at 8 p.m. on Friday, July 6, against the Champaign West All-Stars. 

Trio of ex-Rockets complete careers at Lincoln Land College

Three former Unity High School student-athletes have completed their eligibility at Lincoln Land Community College in Springfield. Volleyball player Brea Cunningham and softball players Gracie Schweighart and Madison Routh each competed two years for the Loggers after graduating from Unity in the spring of 2016.

Unity girls’ program has bright future ahead

The Unity High School girls’ track and field team had a competitive season in 2018, placing third in the inaugural Illini Prairie Conference meet, and at the Glenwood Invitational, as well as coming in fourth at the Monticello Invitational.
