URBANA—The Champaign County Environmental Land Use Committee passed an ordinance regulating Photovoltaic solar farms in Champaign County on Aug.

URBANA — In addition to harvesting corn and soybeans, some Champaign County farms could soon harvest sunlight for conversion into electricity.


Solar ordinance draft passes

In a long and sometimes contentious meeting on Thursday, the Zoning Board of Appeals passed both the new ordinance for photo-voltaic solar farms and the Findings of Fact, evidence they are submitting to the County Board for its consideration.


ZBA gets closer to draft solar farm ordinance

The ZBA is drawing closer to a consensus on how the new photo-volcaic solar farm ordinance should read for the county.  The proposal is taking shape after hours of public testimony and debate amongst the board members with director John Hall.


Solar developer: We listened

Director of Development Patrick Brown met on April 26 with the Sidney board of trustees and concerned residents to present a redesigned plan for his company’s solar farm installation.   Attorney Pat Fitzgerald from Meyer Capel was also present to discuss the tax impact of the solar farm on the area, which BayWa has named the “Prairie Solar” project.


ZBA Amends Proposed Ordinance, Public Testimony Continues

In response to public testimony on April 5, the Champaign County Zoning Board of Appeals has changed the proposed ordinance affecting solar farms.    


County ZBA to meet about solar farm on Thursday

A special meeting is scheduled for April 5 to continue discussion on proposed changes to the county zoning ordinance to address solar farms.
The Champaign County Zoning Board of Appeals meeting will begin at 7 p.m. at the Brookens Administrative Center in Urbana.

A local woman who has created an extensive nature habitat was the guest speaker at the Philo 4-H Friends club’s meeting last Wednesday.
This year’s theme for the club is “Environment/Nature.”
