Free seminar on rainwater harvesting set
Illini FS Farmtown, 1509 E. University Ave, Urbana, will host a rainwater harvesting seminar at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 11. This is a free seminar and open to the public. The speaker will be Chris Sturdyvin of Chris’ Water Gardens, the local water gardening expert and Certified Rainwater Harvesting Professional.
11th Illinois Renewable Energy and Sustainable Lifestyle Fair slated
Enjoy a full weekend of information, education and entertainment at the 11th annual Illinois Renewable Energy and Sustainable Lifestyle Fair which will be held on Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 11 and 12, at the Ogle County Fairgrounds near Oregon. There will be a wide variety of exhibits including solar, wind, biomass, geothermal and healthy personal, home and yard care products.
Free seed for Wildlife Habitat Planting to be distributed April 7
Free seed for wildlife habitat plantings will be distributed by the Champaign County Chapter of Pheasants Forever (CCPF) from 8 a.m. until noon on Saturday, April 7, at the Champaign County Fairgrounds.

Having a sustainable lawn care program involves many of the lawn care activities a homeowner already does, just with some modifications and once those activities are put in perspective, the lawn becomes more manageable. There have been advances in feeding the lawn, giving homeowners choices that were not around just a few years ago.
Aquifer consortium, water supply planning committee to hold conference
The Mahomet Aquifer Consortium (MAC) and East Central Illinois Regional Water Supply Planning Committee (RWSPC) will be holding a Stakeholders Conference on March 29 in Urbana.
Illinois American Water announces 2012 Environmental Grant Program
Illinois American Water has announced that the application process is now open for its 2012 Environmental Grant Program to support innovative, community-based environmental projects that improve, restore or protect the watersheds, surface water and/or groundwater supplies through partnerships.
Application deadline is Jan. 13 for Conservation Buffer Program
Trees Forever is now accepting applications from Illinois farmers and landowners who are interested in improving water quality and reducing soil erosion by participating in the Illinois Buffer Partnership program in 2012. Technical assistance, project planning and funding resources are available to selected landowners who are willing to demonstrate and model good conservation practices.
Illinois electronics landfill ban takes effect Jan. 1
Area residents and businesses are reminded that beginning Jan. 1, electronic devices such as TVs, computers, monitors, printers, gaming systems, VCR/DVD players and more will be banned from Illinois landfills. The new ban restricts 17 electronic items from being landfilled in an effort to keep toxics such as lead, mercury and cadmium out of Illinois landfills.
