Unity High basketball camp set for May 29-June 1

Unity High School boys’ basketball coach Matt Reed has announced that a camp for high school-age students will be conducted from Tuesday, May 29, through Friday, June 1. The camp will be divided into two sessions. Session 1 will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. each day and is for students who will be entering grades 10 through 12.


Unity boys 2017-18, a tale of 2 seasons

The 2017-18 season for the Unity boys’ basketball team might best be characterized as being in two segments. The first segment consisted of the 12 games that opened the campaign.

The Rockets won 11 of those games, and held eight of their opponents to under 40 points.


Season ends for Rockets in regional loss to Effingham

The Unity High School boys’ basketball team entered regional tournament play with a 15-8 record and the fourth seed in their subsectional.


Rough 2nd quarter hurts Unity in loss

The Unity boys basketball team couldn’t get past a second-quarter scoring dry spell during a 59-44 defeat to Notre Dame de LaSalette Feb. 20 at the Rocket Center.


Rockets beat Maroa 77-38

With starter JT Wheeler out for his third game of the week with a high-ankle sprain, the Unity boys’ basketball team managed to pull out a 77-38 win over Maroa-Forsyth Saturday on the road.
Jon Decker led the Rockets in scoring with 20 points, while Evan Miebach added 14 and Brady Porter tossed in eight.


Rockets fall to IVC, 73-53

The Unity boys’ basketball team’s record fell to 14-7 after a 73-53 loss to Illini Prairie Conference foe Illinois Valley Central Friday on the road.
Jared Routh led the Rockets in scoring with 15 points, while Cale Shonkwiler contributed nine.
Things went well for Unity for a while, as they led 21-11 following the first quarter.


Unity boys seeded 4th at Class 3A regional

The Unity boys’ basketball team is seeded fourth at the subsectional A of the Decatur Eisenhower Class 3A sectional.
At the Paris Class 3A regional, eighth-seed Olney East Richland will play ninth-seed Charleston at 6 p.m. Monday, Feb. 26. Sixth-seed Effingham will take on 11th-seed Paris at 7:30 p.m.


Wheeler-less Rockets fall to Pontiac, 60-48

Pontiac posted a 60-48 victory over Unity in an Illini Prairie Conference boys’ basketball game Friday at Unity.
Two minutes passed scoreless in the first period before Pontiac’s Ryan Weir got the Indians on the board. The Rockets’ Jonathan Decker answered to tie it at 2-2.

Rockets improve to 14-4 with Prairie Central win

The Unity High School boys’ basketball team improved its record to 14-4 overall and 3-3 in conference play with a 47-41 win over Prairie Central on Friday on the road.
JT Wheeler led the Rockets in scoring with 18 points, including one three-pointer.
Cale Shonkwiler also contributed 10 points in the Unity win.


Rockets fall to St. Thomas More, 64-44

The Unity High School boys basketball team struggled without starter JT Wheeler last Tuesday, falling to Illinois Valley Conference foe St. Thomas More by a score of 64-44.
Evan Miebach had 11 points, and Jonathan Decker had 10 for the Rockets.
The game got off to a slow start, with Decker scoring almost a minute and a half into the first period.
