Football skill camp planned

Unity football will host a skill camp for students in grades fourth through eighth focusing on skill development for quarterbacks, running backs and wide receivers.
The clinic is for development of skills that will be needed to succeed on the field. Current Unity coaches, players and alums will assist with the camp.

Unity football ties for Illini Prairie championship, earns 24th straight playoff bid

Many people that follow high school football in the area felt that 2017 would be an “all in” year for the Unity Rockets. Head Coach Scott Hamilton’s Rockets were prepared to enter a new conference, the Illini Prairie, comprised of schools from the former Okaw Valley and Corn Belt conferences. Unity was returning 21 seniors, many who were playing their second (or third) year on the varsity.

Ethan Miebach chosen to play in Shrine All-Star game

Unity High School senior Ethan Miebach has been selected to play in the 44th annual Illinois Shrine All-Star Football Game, which will be played on Saturday, June 16, 2018, at Tucci Stadium on the campus of Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington.

More postseason honors roll in for Unity fall sports

The fall sports postseason awards continue to come in for Unity High School student-athletes. More honors have been announced for members of the Rockets’ volleyball, football and girls’ cross-country teams.

Migut named to Class 4A All-State team by IHSA

Unity High School senior Steven Migut has been selected to the Class 4A All-State football team by the Illinois High School Football Coaches Association for the 2017 season.

Herrin eliminates Unity from playoffs, 33-18

The Herrin Tigers used a punishing ground game behind an offensive line that outweighed Unity’s front four by almost 30 pounds per man, on their way to a 33-18 victory over the Rockets in a Class 4A second-round playoff game Saturday at the Harrison-Bruce Sports Complex in Herrin.

Rockets open playoff run with emotional victory over Pontiac

The Unity Rockets football team knew they were up for a challenge last week, preparing for their first-round Class 4A playoff game against the Pontiac Indians. The Rockets had defeated Pontiac 38-14 during the second week of the season.

Unity goes south to meet Herrin Tigers in 2nd round

Those optimists that thought the Unity Rockets would beat Pontiac in the first round of the Class 4A playoffs would have been right if they had made signs for the next round saying, “Beat The Tigers.” They would have been on point no matter who won, because the Rockets would face either the Paris Tigers or the Herrin Tigers in the second round.

Unity JFL ends season with split at Clinton

The Unity Junior Football League teams closed out their 2017 seasons at Clinton on Saturday, Oct. 7. In the first game, Clinton shut out the Rockets’ fifth- and sixth-graders by a score of 34-0. However, the seventh- and eighth-grade squad wrapped up their season on a positive note with a 30-13 win over the young Maroons.

Unity set to play at Bloomington Central Catholic Friday

The 8-0 Unity Rockets will close out their 2017 regular season this Friday evening at 7 p.m. at Bloomington Central Catholic (7-1) in a game that will determine the first football champion of the Illini Prairie Conference. The Rockets currently stand alone in first place in the conference standings with their unblemished 8-0 mark.
