Unity goes south to meet Herrin Tigers in 2nd round

Those optimists that thought the Unity Rockets would beat Pontiac in the first round of the Class 4A playoffs would have been right if they had made signs for the next round saying, “Beat The Tigers.” They would have been on point no matter who won, because the Rockets would face either the Paris Tigers or the Herrin Tigers in the second round.


Unity JFL ends season with split at Clinton

The Unity Junior Football League teams closed out their 2017 seasons at Clinton on Saturday, Oct. 7. In the first game, Clinton shut out the Rockets’ fifth- and sixth-graders by a score of 34-0. However, the seventh- and eighth-grade squad wrapped up their season on a positive note with a 30-13 win over the young Maroons.

Unity set to play at Bloomington Central Catholic Friday

The 8-0 Unity Rockets will close out their 2017 regular season this Friday evening at 7 p.m. at Bloomington Central Catholic (7-1) in a game that will determine the first football champion of the Illini Prairie Conference. The Rockets currently stand alone in first place in the conference standings with their unblemished 8-0 mark.


Miebach passes for record 436 yards in win

The Unity Rockets set up a conference championship showdown with Bloomington Central Catholic, and junior quarterback Evan Miebach broke two school records for passing yards in a game as the Rockets defeated Rantoul 56-28 Friday night at Hicks Field in Tolono.


Rockets go for win No. 7 Friday at St. Thomas More

The Unity Rockets, with a playoff berth assured for the 24th consecutive year, will go into the final third of their 2017 football season this Friday evening by playing the St. Thomas More Sabers at 7 p.m. in Champaign. Unity and STM have had a brief rivalry on the gridiron since the Champaign school opened in 2002, but so far, it’s been all Rockets on the scoreboard.

Rockets’ JV posts 3rd win of season

The Unity junior varsity football team played less than a half against St. Joseph-Ogden Monday night before weather forced the cancellation of the rest of the game, but it was more than enough time for the Rockets to post a 39-6 win over the Spartans, their third win without a loss this season.


JFL Rockets swept by Decatur Catholic, split with Monticello

The regular season is coming to a close for the Unity Junior Football League teams.
The Young Rockets played their final home games last Saturday against Monticello and will conclude their 2017 campaigns with three straight road trips to Shelbyville, Maroa-Forsyth and Clinton.


Rockets get ready for first-ever meeting with Olympia Spartans

This Friday night, the Unity Rockets will take on the Olympia High School Spartans in an Illini Prairie Conference football game at Olympia, which is located near the town of  Stanford, southwest of the twin cities of Bloomington and Normal.


It’s a celebration: Unity blanks SJO 41-0 to go 4-0

It wasn’t playing over the public address system, but in somebody’s head, Kool & the Gang’s “Celebration” was playing at Hicks Field last Friday night following the Unity-St. Joseph-Ogden high school football game. After all, for Unity fans at least, there was plenty to celebrate.
