Unity falls to SJO in softball regional final

The Unity Rockets’ quest for a third consecutive regional softball championship fell short Saturday afternoon when St. Joseph-Ogden used a seven-run fourth inning to break a 4-4 tie and defeat the Rockets, 14-4, in five innings at the SJO Regional Tournament.

Unity places sixth in IPC Conference Cup standings

Unity HIgh School ended the 2017-18 school year in sixth place in the inaugural Illini Prairie Conference Cup standings. The Conference Cup is an all-sports award, assigning point totals to member schools for their finishes in the final league standings in sports in which the IPC offers team championships.

Unity duo places 15th at state bass tourney

A pair of anglers from Unity High School competed last week at the Illinois High School Association’s state bass fishing tournament at Carlyle Lake in southern Illinois. 

The team of Cameron Cokley and Jack Brown finished 15th in a field of over 60 teams during the two-day event, which took place on Friday and Saturday, May 18 and 19.

Illinois Association Elementary Track and Field: Unity boys remain unbeaten at Mahomet

Philo St. Thomas School eighth grader Emma Graham recently competed at the Illinois Elementary School Association’s Class 1A state track and field meet at East Peoria. Graham qualified for state by winning the shot put and placing second in the discus at the Class 1A sectional meet, held two weeks ago at Salt Fork. 

Unity’s Millsap qualifies for 4th straight state berth in pole vault

Unity High School senior Taylor Millsap has qualified for her fourth consecutive state track and field berth in the pole vault. Millsap tied for fourth place at the Class 2A sectional meet last Thursday at Monticello, but cleared 10-feet, 7-inches, well over the qualifying height of 9-7 to advance to state for the fourth time during her high school career.

St. Thomas’ Graham qualifies for state meet

The Unity Rockets boys’ track and field team concluded their regular season by competing at the Mahomet-Seymour Invitational last Saturday, and for the fifth time in five meets, the Rockets wound up on top of the team standings, although they did have to share the championship with Eureka.

Unity faces tough foes heading into regional play

Don’t accuse Unity softball coach Aimee Davis of playing a cupcake schedule, especially leading up to the postseason. Last week, the Rockets closed out the regular season by playing five games against four schools ranked in the top 20 in Class 2A, according to the Illinois Coaches Association poll. Forget the fact that Unity was 1-4 in those five games.

Rockets snap skid heading into postseason

osed out its 2018 regular season with a flourish, scoring seven runs in the top of the seventh inning Saturday to defeat Villa Grove/Heritage, 11-5, at Broadlands in a non-conference baseball game. The victory snapped an eight-game losing streak and gave the Rockets some confidence and momentum going into the Class 2A St. Joseph Regional Tournament.

Rocket Volleyball Camp June 18-21

Unity High School volleyball coach Kylie McCulley has announced that the Rocket Volleyball Camp will be held June 18-21 at the high school. 

Unity bass fishing team advances to state meet

Unity High School will be represented by a team at the Illinois High School Association state bass fishing championship at Lake Carlyle on May 18-19. 

Unity’s boat #1 placed second in the sectional meet April 7 at Lake Shelbyville, and will move onto the state finals.
