Rocket baseball goes 1-2 on spring trip

The Unity High School baseball team was finally able to get some diamond time last weekend in Union City, Tenn. The Rockets played three games in northwest Tennessee, which was just one contest shy of what they had played during the first two-plus weeks of the season.


Unity’s Day, Foster sign with DACC, Eureka

Unity High School seniors Savannah Day and Megan Foster made their future plans public Monday afternoon by signing National Letters of Intent at the high school. Day signed a letter of intent with Danville Area Community College to run cross-country and track, while Foster signed to play volleyball at Eureka College.


Kaiser, Migut claim seconds at Illinois Top Times meet

Unity High School seniors Dawson Kaiser and Steven Migut won second-place medals Saturday at the Illinois Prep Top Times Track and Field Meet, hosted by Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington.Kaiser and Migut led a contingent of 11 Unity athletes entered in nine events at the unofficial state indoor meet.


Softball opens season with three wins

Just like most teams in this area, the opening weeks of the Unity High School softball team’s season have been hampered by that “good ole central Illinois weather.” Rain, snow, combinations of the two, along with high winds and cold temperatures have taken their turns at throwing the Rockets’ early slate for a loop.


Rockets just miss in quest for state title

The Unity Junior High School eighth-grade volleyball team came this close to winning a state championship on its home floor last weekend. The Rockets took on undefeated Eureka in the title match Saturday afternoon at the Rocket Center and extended the Hornets to a third set before falling, 25-23, 12-25, 25-23.

The Unity High School softball team starts the 2018 season with a young, yet experienced lineup as they prepare to win a third consecutive regional tournament championship.


Unity boys place 2nd at Charleston Invite

After a month in unscored, indoor meets at the University of Illinois Armory, the Unity High School boys’ track and field team competed in its first full-scale, scored meet Saturday at Eastern Illinois’ University’s Lantz Fieldhouse. And, judging by the results, the Rockets could be in for another great season on the track this spring.


Unity girls place 10th at Charleston Indoor Invite

The Unity High School girls’ track and field team competed in its first full-scale, scored meet last Saturday when the traveled to Eastern Illinois University for the Charleston Girls’ Indoor Invitational. The Rockets participated in the Class AA division, against schools they will be competing against during the postseason and placed 10th with 24 points.


8th-grade spikers return home for state tourney

For the third season in a row, the Unity Junior High School eighth-grade volleyball team has advanced to the Elite Eight in the Illinois Elementary School Association Class 8-3A state tournament. And for the second consecutive year, the Rockets will be playing on their home court in the state finals, and their first opponent will be a familiar foe.


Unity Youth Wrestling Club qualifies nine for state

The Unity Youth Wrestling Club finished third overall at the IKWF Central Sectional and had nine wrestlers qualify for state.
Hunter Shike won the Intermediate 84 class with 27.5 team points. Hunter Eastin won the Intermediate 108 class with 27 team points.
