National Depression Screening Day events at Parkland College, Oct. 25

The Counseling and Advising Center at Parkland College will host a National Depression Screening Day presentation at noon on Tuesday, Oct. 25, in room D244. The event is sponsored by Counseling and Advising and the Champaign-Urbana Mental Health Public Education Committee.
This session on depression is free and is open to the campus and community.
It includes a film, "The Truth about Suicide: Real Stories of Depression in College," followed by a panel discussion featuring local mental health professionals and representatives from mental health support groups.
Information about the symptoms and treatment of depression, directions for obtaining effective help, the opportunity to ask questions and confidential depression screening will also be available.
Symptoms of depression can include prolonged sadness or unexplained crying spells, significant changes in eating and sleeping patterns, irritability or agitation, pessimism, lethargy/loss of energy, feelings of guilt or
worthlessness, inability to concentrate, inability to take pleasure in former interests, social withdrawal, unexplained aches and pains and recurring thoughts of death or suicide.
