Champaign County Clerk Gordy Hulten announced today seven new and convenient early voting locations for the Nov. 6 general election.
"Voting is, at a fundamental level, individuals exercising choices," Hulten said. "We are excited to offer Champaign County voters new and convenient choices in where and when they can cast their votes."
For the Nov. 6 general election, Hulten announced that eEarly voting will be conducted on the University of Illinois Campus in the Illini Union Room 317, in north Champaign at Spalding Recreation Center, in southwest Champaign at Meadowbrook Community Church, in Mahomet at Grace Church, in Rantoul at Rantoul Recreation Center, in St. Joseph at the St. Joseph Village Annex and in Tolono at the Tolono Public Library. This is the first time that early voting will be offered at multiple locations other than the county clerk’s office.
Each of the new locations will be available to voters from nearby precincts, and each location will be open for most of the early voting period in October and November. In addition, Hulten will conduct early voting as usual at the county clerk’s office at Brookens Administrative Center in Urbana. The county clerk’s office will be available to all Champaign County voters and open for the entire statutory early voting period.
"We want to make voting convenient, accessible and secure for Champaign County’s citizens," Hulten said. ìWe want voters to choose their available location, time and method of voting that is most convenient for them, and encourage them to participate in our elections."
State Senator Mike Frerichs collaborated with Hulten on legislation in the
Illinois General Assembly enabling the multiple early voting locations.
"I want to commend County Clerk Hulten for his efforts to increase participation in early voting," Frerichs said. "Convenient access to early voting locations increases public participation in our elections, and I have appreciated working with him on this mutual goal."
Information about the new early voting locations will be available on the county clerk’s website, www.champaigncountyclerk.com, and the program will be promoted by Hulten as the November election approaches. Voters with questions or those seeking more information should contact Hulten at (217) 384-3720 or e-mail mail@champaigncountyclerk.com.
