Dennis Ray Jumper, 57, of Arcola, formerly of Atwood, passed away at 11:30 p.m. Thursday, April 5, 2012, at his residence surrounded by his family.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 10, at Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, 66 East U.S. Highway 36, Atwood, with Chaplain Tim Haworth officiating. Visitation was from 5 until 8 p.m. Monday, April 9, at the funeral home. Burial was in the Lake Fork Cemetery, rural Atwood.
Dennis was born June 20, 1954, in Springfield, the son of Samuel Richard and Eleanor Reeve Jumper. He married Cindy Webb on June 19, 1999, at Lake Fork Church. She survives.
Other survivors include his daughter, LeAnn Hales, and sons, Howard and Hayden Hales, all of Arcola; daughter, Kimberly (Wayne) Peachey of Arthur; step-daughter, Gabrielle Ried of Villa Grove; step-son, Fred Ried III of Villa Grove; father, Samuel (Irene) Jumper of Bloomington; three brothers, Richard (Janet) Jumper of Peoria, James (Marilyn) Jumper of Springfield and Gary Jumper of Savoy; and two sisters, Rena Williams of South Carolina and Donna (John) Deter of Leroy.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Eleanor Reeve Jumper.
Dennis was a chef and restaurateur. He was a graduate of Bloomington High School Class of 1972. He attended Central Michigan University. Dennis worked as the food and beverage director at the Dixie Truckers Home at McLean and he was the general manager for the Dixie Truckers Home in Tuscola for 15 years. Dennis and his wife, Cindy, were the general managers for the Kaskaskia Country Club in Arcola for seven years. He enjoyed cooking, golfing and karaoke. He competed for two years in the Kansas City Amateur Division of the Brisket and Rib Barbeque competition.
In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to the Dennis Jumper Family or the Douglas County Relay for Life.
