Henry Eugene Cain, 88, of Philo passed away at 10:32 a.m. Wednesday, April 11, 2012, at Provena Covenant Medical Center, Urbana.
Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday, April 16, at St. Thomas Catholic Church, Philo, with Father Bo Schmitt officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Philo.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m., with rosary at 3:45 p.m., on Sunday at Freese Funeral Home, Sidney.
Mr. Cain was born Jan. 2, 1924, in Philo, a son to Leo and Nellie McCormick Cain. He married LaVonne Miller on June 18, 1947, in Bongard. She survives.
Also surviving are eight children, Tom (Cherie) Cain of Philo, Pat (Rick) Kirby of Philo, Dick (Cheryl) Cain of Savoy, Mary (Dean) Reifsteck of Philo, Paul (Diane) Cain of Philo, Cathy (Rick) Powers of St. Joseph, Chris Cain of Champaign and Dan (Amy) Cain of Penfield; one daughter-in-law, Peg Cain of Robinson; 16 grandchildren, Jeff Cain, Jason Kirby, Mindy Fiscus, Brian Cain, Hannah Cain, Sarah Durham, Josh Reifsteck, Dustin Reifsteck, Anna Logsdon, Melanie Reinhardt, Brenda Cain, Shannon Kerner, Nate Cain, Lindsey Kirkland, Megan Cain and Tyler Cain; 11 great-grandchildren, Olivia Cain, Morgan and Evan Fiscus, Britton, Bella and Brilee Cain, Tessa and Tyson Durham, Rylee Reifsteck, Alexis Reinhardt and Caina Kirkland; and a sister, Mary Rita (John) Clennon of Philo.
He was preceded in death by a son, Bob Cain; two grandchildren, Tami Kirby and Greg Cain; and two brothers, John and Bill Cain.
Gene farmed in the Philo area all of his life. He was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Champaign Council, FSA committeeman, Philo Township supervisor, Philo Fire Department, Prime Timers of Farm Bureau and the St. Thomas school board.
