Stone, Bagwell compete in track & field at ISU

A pair of Unity High School graduates have concluded their 2017-18 season competing on the women’s track and field team at Illinois State University in Normal. Junior Hannah Stone and freshman Nicole Bagwell were part of a Redbird squad that swept team championships at both

the Missouri Valley Conference indoor meet at Cedar Falls, Iowa, as well as the outdoor meet at Terre Haute, Indiana.

Stone, a junior at ISU, competes in the the 600 and 800 meters, as well as the 4 X 400-meter relay indoors, recorded her best times of the indoor season at the Early Bird

Invitational, hosted by Eastern Illinois University on December 8. In the 600 meters, Stone was clocked at 1:41.71 in the 600 meters, while her 4 X 400 relay team ran a 4:14.04. 

Outdoors Stone again registered her best times at Eastern. In the Big Blue Classic on March 31, Stone ran the 800 meters in 2:22.92, and her 4 X 400 quartet was clocked at 4:04.43. Stone is majoring in English at Illinois State. Bagwell began her collegiate career by establishing her personal best at the Illini Classic on January 27, clearing 11-feet, 7 ¾-inches to place sixth. That vault stood as the second best on the team during the indoor season. At the Missouri Valley Conference meet at Northern Iowa, Bagwell vaulted 11-4 ¼ to place eighth. Outdoors, Bagwell cleared 12-feet and ½-inch on April 14 at home in the Redbird Invitational That vault earned Bagwell a fourth-place finish. In the classroom, Bagwell wants to major in Elementary Education with the goal of becoming a second-grade teacher.
