Fisher signs with Morton College

Unity High School senior Jon Fisher signed his letter of intent to play baseball for Morton College last Wednesday.
“I chose Morton because it checked all the boxes,” Fisher said. “I loved the young coaches and the direction the program is heading. Academically I feel compatible there.”
Fisher will be majoring in business at Morton.
“It’s only two hours from home, so my family can watch me pitch, and financially they offered me a deal that I couldn’t turn down,” he said.
Fisher hopes to be Morton’s main left-handed starting pitcher in 2019.
“I am planning on working hard to improve my velocity,” Fisher said.
Fisher was selected to receive Honorable Mention for the News-Gazette’s All-Area Team last July.
Fisher played as both a first baseman and pitcher his junior year. As a hitter, Fisher batted .338 with 13 RBIs. The lefty batter notched 22 hits during 65 at bats and tallied 10 runs. In 34 innings of work, the left-hander had a 2-4 record with a team-best 2.06 earned run average. Fisher allowed 23 hits and 10 earned runs while striking out 34 opposing batters.
In addition to his All-Area accolades, Fisher also received recognition on the final All-Okaw Valley Conference team as an Honorable Mention.
