Unity All-Stars to begin tourney play July 5 and 6

The Unity Little League All-Stars will enter postseason play on Thursday, July 5, and Friday, July 6, with district tournaments getting under way in Tuscola and Champaign.

The 9-/10-year-old All-Stars will go to Tuscola for their district tournament and will play their first game at 8 p.m. on Friday, July 6, against the Champaign West All-Stars. 

The tournament will start on Thursday, July 5, with two games, starting at 5:30 and 8 p.m. In the opener, Urbana will take on Decatur at 5:30 p.m., followed by a first-round contest between Champaign East and the host Tuscola squad.

On Friday, July 6, Taylorville will face Paris at 5:30 p.m., with Unity going against Champaign West at 8 p.m. If Unity wins their first game , they will play at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, July 9, against the winner of the Paris-Taylorville game. If Unity should lose their first-round contest they will play the Paris-Taylorville loser at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 7. The double-elimination tournament is scheduled to continue through Monday, July 16, but if a second game is needed to determine the district champion, it will be played at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, July 17.

All games in the 9-/10- year-old district tournament will be played at Ervin Park in Tuscola. 

The park will also be hosting Tuscola’s Sparks In the Park celebration on Saturday, July 7, so be advised that there will be a lot of traffic — both cars and foot — in the park, and parking may be sparse near the diamond.

Members of the 9-/10-year-old All-Star team are Dane Eisenmenger, Austin Winters, Graydin Cler, Tyler Huntington, Caden Stierwalt, Tristin Alexander, Alex Bromley, Bradley Smith, Carter Tiemann, Maddix Sutherland, Collin Gravin, Josh Heath, Tyler Styan and Keegan Germano.

Coaches are Chad Eisenmenger, Steve Winters and Jeremy Tiemann.

The 11-/12-year-old All-Stars will play their district tournament in Champaign and will take on Champaign East at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 5. If Unity wins that game, they will play at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 7, against Urbana, which drew a first-round bye. If Unity loses its first game, they will play at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 11. In other first-round games, Tuscola will play Decatur at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, July 6, and Paris will take on Taylorville at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 7. The double-elimination tournament will continue through Wednesday, July 18, if a second game is necessary to determine a champion. The tournament will be played at First Federal Field, located behind Bottenfield Elementary School, 1901 S. Prospect in Champaign.

Members of the Unity 11-/12-year-old All-Stars are Kalen Shoot, Tre Hoggard, Mike Bromley, J.D. Rennels, Aiden Porter, Zack Lorbiecki, J.D. Wells, Charlie Scott, Emmerson Bailey, Kyler Anderson, Gabe Pound, Nolan Remole and Colson Miller. 

The coaches are Brian Lorbiecki, Chris Bromley and Ryan Perry.
