Rockets come up short in bid for regional title

Two times in the past year, the Unity Rockets and Monticello Sages have met on the basketball court and have exchanged 30-point victories. Last February, the Rockets got the upper hand by defeating the Sages in the championship game of the Tuscola Regional Tournament. On Feb. 5 of this year, the two teams met again on the Sages’ home floor, and Monticello exacted a measure of revenge with a 76-46 triumph. The third meeting in the past 12 months took place Friday night at Sullivan in the championship game of the regional tournament. This time, the game was decided by less than 30 points, but the outcome did not please the Rockets or their fans, as the Sages pulled away in the second half to post a 53-37 win to take the regional title and a berth in the Unity Sectional on Tuesday.
