Rockets hold on to win Illini Prairie Conference opener

The Unity Rockets used a career-high 34 points from Elyce Knudsen and a rebound of a missed free throw in the final seconds to edge the Rantoul Eagles 59-58 Monday night in the Illini Prairie Conference girls’ basketball opener for both teams at Rantoul. The win was Unity’s fifth in six games determined by four points or less, the Rockets’ fourth straight victory, and their ninth of the season to go against three losses.
The Rockets, with just one player listed as tall as 5 feet 9 inches, stood strong against a Rantoul squad that featured three players taller that 5 feet 10 inches, and dominated the boards versus the smaller Unity team.
