UJHS wins regional championship

The Unity Junior High School softball team accomplished something that may not have been done before, winning the Class AA regional tournament championship Monday afternoon at the Centennial High School field in Champaign. The Rockets swept their way through the tournament, defeating Champaign Jefferson 17-1 in three innings on Wednesday, Sept. 6, at Tolono; blanking Mattoon 11-0 in four innings in Saturday’s semifinal game, then downing Shelbyville Moulton 10-1 in Monday’s championship contest. The three victories in the regional increased Unity’s record to 16-0 and sends the Rockets to the sectional tourney, where they will face Bridgeport Red Hill Saturday at Paris High School.
