UJHS advances to first state tournament

For the first time in the history of the program, the Unity Junior High School softball team will play in a state tournament this weekend.
The Rockets wrapped up their first berth in the Elite Eight last Saturday with a 3-2 victory over Bridgeport Red Hill in the Illinois Elementary School Association’s Class AA sectional tournament at Paris High School.
Unity broke a 1-1 tie with two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, then held off a Saluki rally in the top of the seventh to clinch the win that will send Unity against Germantown Hills at 10:30 a.m. Friday morning in Normal.
